A Tribute to Ken Schulte
(1941-2010)
Dr. Schulte served the dairy industry as a practicing dairy veterinarian and as a nutritional and management consultant for over 40 years. He did his undergraduate studies at South Dakota State University and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine. On January 1, 1997, he left his dairy practice to found Dairy Production Services, Inc. a nutrition based dairy management business. In 2010 he became an independent agent for GPS Dairy Consulting. His deep desire to help others, along with his love of the dairy industry made him a true specialist in his field. He was a strong advocate for his profession serving on numerous boards. He was a member and past President of the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association and was honored by his peers by being named SD Veterinarian of the Year in 1995. He served as a member of the South Dakota Reserve Veterinary Medical Officer Corps, which is the state's emergency veterinary response team in the event of a foreign animal disease outbreak or a terrorist attack. He also consulted with and held advisory positions for several dairy industry partners and was an active member of the AVMA and AABP. He made his home and raised his three sons in Milbank, SD. His wife Jan now resides in Watertown, SD.
